Sense of TOUCH

The materials we touch every day quietly shape how home feels—from the sheets we sleep in to the texture on the walls and the floor beneath bare feet. Here are a few sources and details I love for creating a home that feels as good as it looks.

Bedding: So Many Choices

Bedding is one of those small everyday luxuries that can make a big difference. I love Frette, Sferra, and Matouk for beautiful, high-quality options. Sferra also offers custom linens for clients with extra-large or custom-sized beds.

Consider: What material feels most luxurious to you?

Wallcovering Layers with Texture

I would cover every wall—and ceiling—in handmade wallpaper if I could. It brings a depth and softness that paint simply cannot replicate.

  • Assemblage is a go-to when a room needs subtle texture and a little more soul. I have used it in dining rooms, bedrooms, and living rooms.

  • Adelphi Paper Hangings is perfect for a more traditional feel. I used their Wheatlands Volute in a large entry foyer, and it was absolutely stunning.

  • Fabscarte makes handmade wallpaper in Italy that feels like art. I am not typically a feature-wall person, but their Midnight Moon Dust created a beautiful moment in a primary bedroom.

Consider: Where could your home use a little more texture?

Flooring Decision Overload

Hardwood flooring comes with more decisions than you might expect. In a recent renovation, we replaced Brazilian cherry with 8-inch-wide domestic white oak in a natural, lightened finish, and the home instantly felt warmer and more current. Species, construction, grade, plank width and length, edge detail, texture, and sheen all affect how a floor looks, wears, and feels underfoot. I love white oak for its warmth and natural variation, especially in a low-sheen finish that lets the grain shine and becomes more beautiful with age.

Consider: Engineered or solid hardwood—which do you prefer, and why?
